Topps didn't produce cards in 1955-56 or 1956-57, and thankfully with this set they sized down to what is still the standard card dimensions (2.5" x 3.5"), after slightly larger cards in 1954-55 (2.625" x 3.75"). This team set could have been brought to you by McDonald's.
A few of the cards have softer corners, particularly the #1 card, Real Chevrefils. Before the days of plastic holders and card grading, most kids lugged their cards around in stacks bound by rubber bands, and so the front and back cards of any set would take a beating. The Stasiuk in the image at right has a visible crease, but that card has already been replaced with a much finer version. The Don Simmons rookie is also in roughish shape, but it seems to be a hard card to upgrade to better condition because there simply aren't many examples out there.
The best Bruins card in this set is the John Bucyk rookie card. In fact across the whole set only the Glenn Hall RC and Gordie Howe cards book higher. Mine is graded KSA 5 (EX); it's a little off-center and has some yellow ink bleeding into the right margin. But it's still a beautiful card, and I'm considering having it re-graded by PSA (even if that results in a 4).
